What is Dwarkadheesh Pichwai?
Dwarkadheesh Pichwai is a Pichwai painting depicting Krishna as Lord of Dwarka, using the visual language of the Nathdwara Pichwai tradition. It was created by National Award-winning artist Trilok Prakash Soni, who applied the centuries-old Pichwai form to the iconography of the Dwarkadheesh Jagat Mandir and its seasonal ritual calendar.
In the Vaishnav tradition, Krishna is worshipped in several distinct forms. Shrinathji is the young cowherd Krishna of Vrindavan, worshipped at Nathdwara in Rajasthan. Dwarkadheesh, meaning Lord of Dwarka, is the mature king-Krishna who establishes his court at Dwarka on the Saurashtra coast after leaving Mathura.
The Dwarkadheesh Jagat Mandir at Dwarka is one of the Char Dham pilgrimage sites and one of the most sacred shrines in Vaishnavism. Yet while Shrinathji had an entire painting tradition built around his darshan, Dwarkadheesh had almost none in the same format. In the entire 400-year history of Pichwai painting, no artist had depicted Lord Dwarkadheesh in this tradition.
Trilok Prakash Soni changed that. To acquire or commission a Dwarkadheesh Pichwai, explore the full range of Pichwai paintings by Trilok Prakash Soni or go directly to commission a Dwarkadheesh Pichwai.
